This Memorial was erected by
the families of the fallen in
the Great War 1914 - 1918 in token
of their undying love for those
who willingly and with thanksgiving
yielded up their lives in the service of
their God, King and Country and in
the cause of Liberty and Justice

To the glory of God and in honoured memory of
Nurse Nellie Decima BROWN
of this parish who died July 2nd 1921
after three years of suffering
following four years of active service
in the Great War 1914 - 1918

"Nellie died of lung disease while nursing all through the war and it was therefore deemed appropriate to commemorate her as near to the Angel as possible."

The Rev Frederick Edward Barwick HULTON-SAMS
Lieutenant 6th  Batt. Duke of Cornwall's Light infantry
Eldest son of the Rector of this parish
born November 21st 1881
Educated at Harrow and Trinity College Cambridge.

Ordained Curate of St Paul's, Balsall Heath, Birmingham.
He then worked as a Bush Brother in Queensland for
five and a half years.
On the outbreak of the war with Germany
he joined the army and was killed at Hooge July 31st 1915
whilst crawling from cover to fetch water for his wounded men.

Born June 30th 1890
An Etonian and B.A Univ: Oxford,
Lieutenant 56th Rifles. F.F. India, who
was killed in action in Mesopotamia
Jan: 13/14, 1916.
On;y son of the Revd. R.I. and Mrs Woodhouse
of Merstham Rectory, Surrey.
and a grandson of the late Rector of this parish
The Revd. C.B.A.G. HULTON, M.A.
and first cousin of the late Lieut. the
Revd. F. Hulton Sams, B.A.
 

Emberton War Memorial in the centre of the Village

The names of the casualties on the War Memorial (written in gold, middle panel)
are identical to the namesinside the church,
although A. JOHNSON is displayed in addition
