Longwick
Death of
Private CHAPMAN
We regret to have to record the death of Pte.
Walter Chapman, Royal Sussex Regiment. The deceased
soldier, who was 19 years of age, enlisted on
Feb 20 1917 and was trained at Salisbury and
North Walsham. He went to France on Sept 9,
joining the Royal Sussex Regiment, and was killed
in action on Sept 25. Previous to his enlistment
he attended the Council School at Longwick,
and subsequently was employed at the Welch Ale
Brewery at Princes Risborough where he was much
liked and respected by his fellow workers. Two
other sons of Mr and Mrs Chapman of the Red
Lion, Longwick, are at present serving in France
- one with the RGA, the other in the Royal Fusiliers.
Much regret is felt by all who knew the deceased,
also sympathy for the parents in their great
loss.
